BIG buck under the old apple tree at dusk (time to make apple butter). He and his girlfriends ate our meager crop of Concord and Niagra grapes also, what the japanese beetles didn’t despoil. And when the buck saw me and jumped the fence he flushed out a red fox who was lurking around the compost pile. The red raspberries I planted in June are bearing big, outrageous berries. My two-year old grandson Kosmos and I are having a running battle over when a raspberry is truly ripe. Lettuce and spinach I planted a week ago is up. Now if I can keep it going through the early frosts. Here’s a shot of my motor-head buddy Kos.
